Irony of Expecting to Live Life Longer with Obesity and High Blood Pressure

High blood pressure plus obesity would be a condition in which you would least likely expect to live your life longer. But recent studies show that fat is the new way to go if you want to have a longer life expectancy.

Of course, being a skeptic, you definitely can’t help but think if this is another medical quackery or fraud. But it is indeed something that is very attention catching and interesting to know of.

Hurrah For Longer Life Expectancy!

Due to the improvements and advancements of medical technology, the life expectancy for Americans has increased. Data from National Center for Health Statistics and other Health Institutes show that there has been a drop of fatality due to these big three killers. The incidences were down by two to five percent.

According to recent data, if you are born in 2003, you have a life expectancy of 77.6 years of age. There has been a notable .3 increase compared to the life expectancy of children born in 2002 that has 77.3 years of life expectancy. 77.6 years is already far greater than 75.4 years, which was the life expectancy during the 1990.

A lot of factors are responsible for the continued rise in life expectancy since the 90’s. Some of these factors are extraordinary advances in sanitation and medicine. Factors like decline in smoking and other unhealthy behaviors also play a role too.

The Catch

Sadly, with this good news, comes along a catch. The thing is, even though life expectancy is now longer, you have a big chance of being obese and having high blood pressure.

Baby boomers, those who were born in between 1946 to 1964, are responsible for the increase of the 55-to-64 age group in 2014. They are expected to be of about 40 million in number, compared to 20 million people in this age group during 2004.

There has been comparative study of people in the 55-to-64 age range during the 1990’s and those of today. Basically, those tested during the 90’s were born in the 1930’s and those tested recently were born in the 1940’s.

Both groups were tested of having hypertension and obesity. The 1930’s group showed that 40 percent of them had high blood pressure, while 31 percent were obese. The 1940’s group however, had 50 percent of the population with high blood pressure, and 39 percent of them were obese.

The only nice out come with the data is that, it was found that cholesterol levels had a remarkable decrease. This is due to the advancements in low-cholesterol drugs. Data showed that 35 percent of the 1930’s group had high cholesterol, while 23 percent of the 1940’s group has high cholesterol.

Wake Up Call

Obesity and hypertension is becoming a fad. But you should remember that being obese and hypertensive can cause you to develop other worse conditions such as diabetes, and heart diseases.

Caring for your health starts now. You should do some critical thinking if you truly want to care for yourself. It’s never too late to start living healthy. You can’t always reason out that you are already aging and let things be. You can’t always say that you don’t have time for exercise, since you can do this even at your workplace.

It’s time to start eating healthy food, other than junk food. There are a lot of alternative healthy snacks you can enjoy, than indulging on that fat filled pint of ice cream. Science has already reached up a certain level where it can already produce any kind of food imaginable!
